A Message from the Character Community Foundation
Character Community Week is being celebrated from October 25-31st this year. There are activities taking place across York Region to celebrate the great communities we live in and remind people that great communities are created by the people who live, learn, work and play in them.
It is the simple everyday actions we have with others in our communities that demonstrate our individual character, we each represent a thread that is woven to create the fabric of the community. It is the way we treat each other in our everyday actions that determines the feel of the fabric or the type of community we create.
It takes all of us; government, business, education, community organizations, individuals and families to work towards creating the fabric of a community or building a sense that we are a part of a great community.
During Character Community Week, we are asking people of York Region to pledge to live with character by identifying three things that they will do more of to promote good character. Some of those everyday things we can do that create a welcoming community include:
- Give the driver, who let you in a little wave of thanks
- Be the driver who lets someone in
- Wave to your neighbour as you pass on the street
- Hold the door open for the person coming through the doorway at the same time as you
- If you are thinking of something positive – say it – don’t just think it – you could make someone’s day
- Smile
We will be out at several malls in York Region during Character Community Week. Come out and say hello, fill out your pledge to live with character and tell us about the community you live, learn, work and/or play in.
Live with character. Change our world.
