Character Community Week 2009 - Overview
WHAT:
During Character Community week the Foundation works with partners to promote awareness of the 11 York Region character attributes and the importance of living with good character.
Celebrating Character Community Week brings to life the attribute of inclusiveness which is defined as working together to build a community where everyone feels included empowered and valued for his or her unique contributions.
WHEN:
During the week of October 25- 31st 2009 the Character Community Foundation is asking the people of York Region to celebrate Character Community Week.
BACKGROUND:
The Character Community Foundation of York Region is focused on working together to make York Region a Character Community by nurturing positive character attributes at home, school, work and play.
The initiative is recognized and supported by The Regional Municipality of York as well as the nine area municipalities, York Regional Police, the York Region District School Board and York Catholic District School Board, along with the York Region Media Group and numerous community and business organizations.
The Foundation tag line promotes the message that by Living with Character. You can change our world.
By being role models of character we continue to build
- communities that are safe and vibrant,
- communities’ people are proud of and
- communities where people want to live, learn, work and play.
It takes all of us to have an impact on the quality of life in our communities.
It takes all of us to build communities that promote a sense of connection and belonging.
Character is more about our actions than what we say we will do. It is about the way we conduct ourselves and about our daily dealings and interactions with one another.
Character demonstrated through action and impacts the type of relationships, the environment, the community, the organizational culture that we create in which to live, learn work & play.
