May's Attribute is RESPONSIBILITY.

WHAT IS RESPONSIBILITY?
I will be accountable for my actions, be reliable and keep my commitments.

I WILL:
•honour my commitments to others even though it may be difficult for me.
•be reliable so that people know they can depend on me to do what I say I will do.
•be accountable for the things I say and do and I will not make excuses if I fall short of the mark.

“Character — the willingness to accept responsibility for one's own life — is the source from which self-respect springs.” Joan Didion

What is a Character Community?

A Character Community is one in which members of the community work together to nurture positive character attributes.

It requires a shift in thinking and a focus on attitudes and behaviours that lead to achievement and success.

Character is important

Good character makes a positive difference in our families, schools, businesses and neighbourhoods by acting as a catalyst for positive change and citizen engagement.

A Character Community attracts people and businesses of character and acts as a driver for economic growth and prosperity.

The Character Community encourages businesses to:

  • Identify what the business stands for
  • Establish ethical business practices
  • Emphasize customer-service
  • Foster strong Character employees
  • Develop business leaders of Character
  • Give back to their community

York Region Hospitality First

Hospitality First is a new York Region intiative that provides a website with resources for people and business development.

The site has three main components: the first highlights careers in the hospitality sector; the second provides resources on how to deliver excellent customer service through interactive modules; and the third provides businesses with the tools and resources to embrace a customer-service philosophy and to empower staff.

The Character Community Foundation collaberated in the development of the Character-driven customer service module.

If you are interested in learning more about integrating Character into your business in York Region, please contact Executive Director Karen Addison at 905.895.5155 Ext. 126 or by email at Karen.charactercommunity@gmail.com
