Character Community Philosophy

Emphasizing good character is not a new concept. However, the Character Community initiative is new in that it requires a shift in thinking. The initiative focuses on attitudes and behaviours that lead to achievement and success instead of focusing on the end result. Developing strong character gives the ability to overcome obstacles and achieve success.

The Character Community initiative is secular; it is not linked to any one specific set of religious teachings and has received support from faith groups in York Region such as the Christian, Jewish and Muslim communities.

By working together and emphasizing the need for good character, we will ensure that York Region is prepared for the challenges of the 21st century and continues to be a healthy and prosperous community.
