Schools
The Character Community initiative is prominent in the schools of York Region District School Board and York Catholic District School Board, both elementary and secondary. And it is beginning to make a difference.
Involvement by schools is invitational. As time goes by and schools hear and see the benefits that others are experiencing, more and more schools are embracing character education in ways and means that are relevant to them.
The benefits and successes of character education are being documented.
Schools are reporting that staff, students, and even parents are now naturally using the character language (the attributes). They are also noting that behaviour is changing. Teachers are relaying incidents about improved courtesy and attendance, and activities demonstrating caring for others both on and off school property.
