Character in Sport Student Contest

Now is your chance to show everyone in York Region how much Character you have! The York Region Character Community Foundation and the Character in Sport Committee is holding a Character in Sport Student Contest between March 24, 2008 and May 2, 2008.

Teachers can get their students involved with a series of Elementary School Lesson Plans for Character in Sport.

What You Need to Know:

  • The Character in Sport Contest is open to all York Region students (Public, Catholic and Private) who are currently in Grades JK thru 8.
  • Students may submit to the Character in Sport Committee any of the following media:
    • Comic Strip
    • Banner
    • Poster
    • Billboard
    • Video (DVD or VHS)
    • T-Shirt
    • Collage
    • Pamphlet
    • Scrapbook
    • Announcement

The theme of each entry submitted must be Character in Sport and it must incorporate messaging from either the True Sport Movement OR at least one attribute from either the “Character Matters” Poster, “Character in York Catholic Schools” Poster or the Character Community “I Live With Character” Poster.

Entries must be mailed OR sent by board courier to:

  • Entries can also be e-mailed to: character.community@york.ca
  • All entries must be the student’s original creation.
  • All entries must include the student’s name, grade, teacher’s name, school name and the city the student lives in. These items can be attached or put on the back of the submission.
  • Only one entry per student will be accepted.
  • Entries must be received no later than May 2, 2008.
  • Entries will be judged on the quality of the work. Prizes will be awarded for students in each of the nine municipalities across York Region. Teachers from winning students will also be recognized.
