This month, CanadaHelps has launched the sixth annual Great Canadian Giving Challenge with an increased grand prize.  . Every $1 ( minimum $3 donation) donated to a registered charity in June via CanadaHelps.org, automatically enters the charity to win an additional $20,000 donation. The grand prize draw will take place on July 1st, Canada Day, and one lucky charity will receive this new grand prize of $20,000. CanadaHelps knows that the charitable sector has been hit hard by COVID-19 and has doubled the prize this year.

These are difficult times and many of us have been asked to provide additional support to our community organizations.  We seriously considered not participating in this year’s Great Canadian Giving Challenge, and like all of you we have been following recent events with feelings of great sadness and concern for our young people.  It is apparent that now more than ever we need to build strong communities of character.

Our Youth Social Justice Days program provides the tools to empower our youth to become community leaders, to know that their voices will be heard and that they can make positive change in our community by living with character. Unfortunately, due to COVID-19, we have lost the funding for this program, and we knew that to continue to support the youth of York Region we must participate in the 2020 Great Canadian Giving Challenge.

This is an opportunity for Character Community to win $20,000 which will totally fund our Social Justice Days program for 1,000 students in grades 6-8 throughout York Region.
